For rubber and sneakers FLO so far has not defined criteria, and hence there is no indepentent monitoring either. FairDeal Trading relies on its own experience and contacts. And the rubber criteria agreed upon with the producer are closely modelled along FLO criteria. The Fair Trade premium is EUR 0,50/kg rubber.

Fair Trade is not simply concerned about the payment of a Fair Trade premium, of equal importance is that those who have created a product with their labour are involved in the decision making process, how the Fair Trade premium is being spent. For this purpose so called 'joint bodies' have been established: These are committees in which representatives from the work force and from the management jointly decide, how best to spend the premium in order to maximise the benefit for the workers.

The rubber tappers in Sri Lanka decided to use the first Fair Trade premium from the first order for ETHLETIC sneakers to provide piped water from a renovated well for 22 worker houses. This means that no only do the workers no longer have to carry heavy containers for hundreds of yards - this measure also reduces the chance to contract water borne diseases. Furthermore, a canteen cum lounge was added to a central latex collection station, providing for the first time space for the lunch break, lockers for a change of clothing, and clean toilets.
